bassinspace Premonition, Eventide, Cold Sound, Washin' - These are all most excellent tracks that to me stand out on this solid album from Whippoorwill. This album is obviously the result of hard work and natural creativity.

Awesome chilled out music with a post-modern southwestern vibe. Favorite track: Eventide.

Premonition 03:20
premonition teralingua and the ocatillo borderline with a twisted spine swear i saw you in the milk of the moonlight brother desert, meet sister sky said it all in the breath you exhaled stared into your cup of wine red ripples of premonition let it linger behind your eyes rain, rain, rain now there’s fear in the eyes of the mother silk coursing through her every vein carved deeper by the waters rising watch it all wash away rain, rain, rain oh honey, can you feel my fortune oh rise and fall my chest been dipped in the milk of the mother now the wild wind blows us west

Eventide 03:52
eventide oh there’s something heavy in this blacktop breeze sends the wheat rippling and rolling and i’m curled in it’s wake, gently broke oh memory, kaliedescope afterwhile, when i come upon an empty mile lay my head back and dream awhile of the way you rocked me eventide, i’ll float away again the day i find an easy way to leave behin the way you rocked me gonna take 27 to amarillo leave my broken heart in a hotel room with the residue of cigarettes and strangers with the hum of the AC and cicadas and i’m gonna ride this highway like it’s something listen to johnny cash and graham parsons and I’ll chase the sky forever if you’ll ever let me go afterwhile, when i come upon an empty mile lay my head back and dream awhile of the way you rocked me eventide, i’ll float away again the day i find an easy way to leave behin the way you rocked me everything around us was changing and i spun gently in the palm of your hand until you sung me still and everything around us was changing and I spun gently in the palm of your hand until i fell ooo love, the way you turned me in your hands

Cold Sound 03:10
cold sound you called me from cali and begged me for mercy, and i wanted you to stay. you danced out that window and sang all the way home, and i'd wondered what you were saying. babe, baby won't you stay? well autumn brought colors that i'd never seen before, and i wanted something to change. i'm begging for mercy, won't someone give me a sign. babe, baby won't you stay. don't you want me back, now that i'm gone? babe, baby won't you stay?

I Got Drunk 03:16
i got drunk i got drunk, in the morning time just roaming around trying to find the plans that we made, in the bed that we laid oh i don't think i can do this for another day. you stood there, brushing back your hair like it don't really matter, like you don't really care and i recall you calling me crazy, but that's not really me, it's just the way you made me. i got drunk, in the evening time just roaming around trying to find the plans that we made, in the bed that we laid oh, i don't think i can do this for another day time goes by, and i'm all stuck here inside your head and it's been hard, cause i'm thinking bout the things you should have said...

Great Lakes 03:44
well i guess I'm feeling you again in the way the clouds are rolling in driving up the coast of lake michigan your haunts and suburban legendds always playing just a little too rough always moving on to other stuff i was kicking over castles in the sand and you were a speck in a great lake swimming you know i'd never seen the northern lights, but you conjured them that night all the heat of the universe bouncing between our bodies always playing just a little too rough always moving on to other stuff i was burying myself in the sand and you were a speck in a great lake swimming i know how sad you could be when no one was looking when no one was looking and I know how hard it can be to keep yourself from drowning when you're that far out always playing just a little too rough always moving on to harder stuff found myself a piece of dry land looking for a speck in a great lake swimming

Washin' 03:54
washin' i watched the smoke, leave your mouth curl around, i watched your body leave the ground as you sang, sweetly to God you rang, like a train headed south and i was thinking about washin' and i was thinking abut dreamin' and i was thinking about letting you go. i watched the snow, fall from the sky that was orange and gold, and turned the world white i spun around, with my feet on the ground and i sang, sweetly to the cane and i was thinking about washin' and i was thinking abut dreamin' and i was thinking about letting you go. have these days been rampant, or have i been wasting my precious time on chasing you time it just slips by, between my hands and i'm running quickly to catch up with the sun i've been waiting for you to take off your shoes and dance with me down this highway of dreams just cause there's a road there, don't mean you gotta take it. so come on baby, and dance with me and i was thinking about washin' and i was thinking abut dreamin' and i was thinking about letting you go.

change gonna come oh this land is always changing, right beneath my feet. river's flooding in the middle of the night, it's been raining all spring. and i aint got my bags packed, i ain't ready to go, but it's been taking me anyway. and i ain't never been one for the road, at lest not one that takes me away. oh, there ain't nothin' you can do you can't hide, and you can't run. oh, there ain't nothin' you can do, change gonna come. broken bridges and broken hearts, can't you hear the sound? i never really realized, the heaviness thats sticks around. time really has a way, of wrapping itself around, circles back just to say hello, just for kicks and just for show. oh, there ain't nothin' you can do you can't hide, and you can't run. oh, there ain't nothin' you can do, change gonna come. here i am by the river side, trying not to waste much more time there ain't nothing i could say or i could do, it's the lessons that i've learned and how i'm turning oh, there ain't nothin' you can do you can't hide, and you can't run. oh, there ain't nothin' you can do, change gonna come. change gonna come

about

Fort Collins based alternative folk band Whippoorwill distilled its past few years of experiencing the turmoil of the land and the culture into its new album The Nature of Storms. On its 2017 tour the band experienced tornadoes, floods, forest fires, blizzards and the destructive nature of the Trump presidency itself and the polarized social and political climate surrounding it. With the personal lives of its members in disarray as well the trio pulled together and crafted one of the most affecting releases of the year that exceeds expectations for terms like “alternative folk” as the band seems to be channeling the pain and agony of the times into songs that if not exactly exorcising those emotions, brings a compassionate energy to the proceedings.

about

Whippoorwill Fort Collins, Colorado

Alt-folk written by boots-in-the-dirt, partner-in-crime country girls and delivered across a vast percussive landscape. For Whippoorwill, there's little separation between the soul and the scenery-- heartbreak is a ripped floodplain and longing, an unbroken expanse of sky. Non-traditional banjo, long harmonica riffs, distorted guitar, and three-part harmonies that scorch, soar, haunt accordingly. ... more
